Kent Challenger Games 2021

In June 2021, the Kent Challenger Games took place at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford, bringing together 450 Secondary and Primary School children for an opportunity to really shine over the two days. These children may not normally have an opportunity to represent their school and participate in sporting or physical activities or may find it difficult to access this type of event due to a disability, medical condition or additional need. As a local business, Premier Coatings Ltd was honoured to sponsor the games.

Over the two days, participants were stretched to undertake activities that were out of the ordinary, fun, exciting and challenging, and that gave a real sense of achievement; revealing to each of them their true inner strengths, and letting them know that all things are possible if you focus on the assets you have.

The Ashford Sea Cadets entertained with their musical performance and led an Olympic march of Schools with their banners around the track. The Towers School Cheerleaders gave spirited acts of performance to emphasise why they are national and international champions.

Games Champion and Founder, Winston Michael, said “the Games showcased how incredible young people are regardless of their personal circumstances, and they let us know that our future is in safe hands”.

Winston Michael expressed thanks to his project Team, Simon Dean OBE of Challenger Troop, a community company that works with schools, CSgt Gary Sage of The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (3 PWRR), and KCC Events Team. The Games has always associated itself with the military and it was a privilege to have officers of 3 PWRR attend. The Games was made entirely possible by 65 people volunteering to help, and to whom a huge debt of gratitude is owed.
